Module 2: Lesson 1: Topic 2: System Functions

DATA MODE: 'Test' or 'Official'

In Stage 1, 'Test' submissions allow you to test your CABG Data before officially submitting it to HCAI. Test submissions go through the same validation programs and generate the same summary and detail reports as official submissions, but do not result in official approval of data. If your data contains errors, you can correct and resubmit it as a test submission as many times as you like. HCAI encourages you to take advantage of test submissions by repeatedly testing your data before officially submitting it. However, HCAI does NOT require that you submit a Test submission before officially submitting your data. We'll explain 'Test' and 'Official' submissions in depth later in this training, as well as what options for Data Modes are available in other CORC Stages.

DATA SOURCE: 'Electronic Data File' or 'Online Entered Records and/or Corrections'

There are two ways to submit CABG Data through CORC: 1) You can attach an electronic data file created outside CORC, or 2) You can enter and submit your CABG data records directly online.

Online entry allows you to manually enter CABG Data records directly into CORC. This is especially useful for low volume hospitals.

A larger hospital may use online entry to add or delete individual CABG Data records online without having to change and resubmit their entire CABG Data file.

Validation Programs

The programs that HCAI uses to validate your CABG Data are:
  1. Transmittal (3 levels—ensures integrity of file being submitted to CORC)
  2. Licensing (validates surgeon licensing information)
  3. Standard (validates required fields are provided and within the acceptable value range)
  4. Comparative (examines submitted file for repetitive data elements)
  5. Relational (validates related data elements are provided and within the acceptable value range)

Reports

CORC provides numerous summary and detailed reports. These reports provide the results of the processing of your CABG Data through the various validation programs and help you to identify and correct any CABG Data errors found during processing. We'll discuss these reports in detail later in this training.

Once you've started using CORC to officially submit your CABG Data, you'll also have access to various historical summary reports of your CABG Data submissions.

To view CORC reports, you'll need Adobe Acrobat Reader. You can download this free software from Adobe's website. HCAI recommends you always contact your in-house IT department before downloading and installing any software.

Online Error Correction

This feature allows you to correct individual CABG Data records directly online in CORC without having to resubmit your entire CABG Data file.
