Module 5: Lesson 1-CORC Security: Topic 1-The CORC Application

This Module Lesson contains three topics (listed to the left).

This Lesson topic outlines various security features that have been designed and built into the CORC Application. By CORC Application we are referring to the Web Application that the hospitals use to enter/upload, submit, and correct data, as well as view CORC reports or other CCORP posted files and to maintain their hospital contacts.

CORC Login Screen

As noted in the image below, the CORC Login screen makes the following points about security at time of logon:
  1. Authorization to access this system is limited to hospitals and their affiliates
  2. All other access is unauthorized and unlawful
  3. This system is monitored for information security and proper usage. Your use of this system constitutes your consent that all of your system activities can be monitored
  4. Unauthorized use may be subject to California Penal Code Section 502
  5. By logging on I acknowledge I have read and understand the above statement

Of course, these are just words, but CORC is protected by the use of unique Usernames and Passwords. CCORP suggests the use of strong passwords, which is accomplished by adding the following combinations to passwords:
  1. Using at least ONE Capital Letter
  2. Using at least ONE Number
  3. Using at least ONE Special Character

Use of Secured Socket Layer

Secured Socket Layer (or SSL) means a number of things technically, but in short, in means that:
  1. The web address for the CORC site uses 'https'
  2. That 128-bit data encryption is used
  3. The CORC website maintains a certificate to authenticate it as a secured site

How Each of Us Keeps CORC Secure

Each of us play a part in keeping CORC safe. Here are some ways that we exercise this CORC Security:
  1. Don't share your Username or Password with ANYONE
  2. Don't write your Username or Password down (Do people actually post their password on their monitors?)
  3. Consider changing your Password on a regular basis
